Exploring a Florida Junkyard: A Treasure Trove of Pontiac Firebirds and Ford Mustangs

Sometimes a junkyard crawl is more about adventure than discovery. And that’s the case with the latest presentation from the Junkyards and Barn Finds with Sean YouTube channel.

This time, Sean heads to a salvage yard on Florida’s west coast. In between locating a few classic cars, he has to keep an alert out for alligators.

Enthusiasts will appreciate the opportunity to test their car spotting skills among the dozens of decaying vehicles strewn across the ten-acre property. While the episode is mostly a junkyard overview video, a few noteworthy rides receive a close-up look.

Discovering Pontiac Firebirds

As is this the case with many junkyards, there’s no rhyme or reason to how each business organizes its cars—and that’s what makes Sean’s exploration interesting. After every few footsteps, we catch a glimpse of something engaging.

Early on, viewers see a V8 Pontiac Firebird (4:41) that a commenter identifies as a 1979 to 1981 model. Its bright blue paint still shines despite the strength of the Florida sun. Shortly thereafter, another 2nd-gen Firebird (6:57) appears among the bush. Unlike the earlier one, the body is surprisingly free of rust.

Finding Many Mustangs

A New Edge Mustang raised for engine and transmission removal

While this junkyard seems to be the resting place mostly for General Motors vehicles, Fords are well represented. One of the first vehicles Sean calls out is a Fox Body Mustang coupe (2:25) obscured by stacks of tires and other debris. Viewers get teased with another Fox Body (4:33), but with no details provided.

More walking reveals a New Edge Mustang (9:38) on a tall platform making the car appear like an idol ready for worship. But, it’s only raised for engine and transmission removal.

JDM Happenings At This Junkyard

A bright yellow Dodge Stealth in the bush

Most of the vehicles discovered during Sean’s walkabout are Detroit steel. Yet, there are a few intriguing models from the land of the rising sun. Notably, a first-generation Mazda RX-7 (3:45) sits lurking in the tall grass.

Meanwhile, a bright yellow Dodge Stealth (10:17) rests atop the overgrowth as if it got stuck after finishing a jump. Also, adding to the property’s JDM credentials is a first-gen Toyota MR2 (15:27) that almost looks ready for the road. But, it’s doubtful a fresh coat of paint is all the work this tiny two-seater needs
