1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Fetches $500,000 at Auction

1969 was a great year for the Camaro. Not that ’67 and ’68 models were bad, but 1969 is the year when the ZL1 engine was fitted in GM’s pony car via the famed COPO program.

The 7.0-liter mill was able to deliver 430 horsepower, which was a lot for a road car in the late 1960s. The amazing power and the fact that only 69 ZL1 Camaro were produced makes these vehicle sought after and quite expensive. Half a million bucks expensive that is! Yes folks, this Dusk Blue Camaro ZL1 was sold for $500,000 (€369,167 / £311,818) at Mecum’s Chicago auction this weekend, confirming once again that the classic musclecar market isn’t going down anytime soon.

This rare Camaro wasn’t the only vehicle to fetch a spectacular amount of cash at this event. Harley J. Earl’s unique 1963 Chevrolet Corvette was sold for no less than $1.5 million.
