Richard Rawlings Unveils the Gas Monkey ’52 Fleetline Build at Tacos and Tires Event

Richard Rawlings and Gas Monkey Garage held an event to celebrate the launch of their 1952 Chevrolet Fleetline build

Richard Rawlings is one of the biggest personalities in the automotive world, that there is no question. He shot to fame on “Fast ‘N Loud” and then of course set up Gas Monkey Garage, which has grown and grown thanks to the YouTube channel for the garage. Rawlings and his team certainly have created some epic builds and restored some pretty special cars over the years, but one build that has taken place recently holds a special place in the heart of Rawlings and his team.

This is the 1952 Chevrolet Fleetline that for years has just sat in the Gas Monkey Garage workshop as a bit of a museum piece. It was the first car that the team worked on, and Rawlings decided he wanted it brought back to life, to celebrate 20 year since Gas Monkey Garage’s inception. The build has taken his team around a week and a half, and now it is finally finished as the team held a Tacos N’ Tires event at the Gas Monkey Garage, to showcase the Fleetline as well as a few other cars.

An Event About Hanging Out And Having A Lot Of Fun

Rawlings introduces the video on the YouTube channel covering the event, and says it is all about having some fun, taking pictures of some cars and drinking beer. We get a cool montage of some of the cars arriving at the event. We have everything from classic Corvettes, toe modern Lamborghinis and to slammed Volkswagen Beetles turning up at the Gas Monkey Garage. After a bit of housekeeping, Rawlings comes back out to see what’s going on at the event and of course show off the 1952 Fleetline.

This was always an event to show off the Fleetline which we see at the start of the video, but Rawlings also wants to see all the cars fans of him and the garage have brought in. Rawlings meets the guy who was first through the doors at the event and checks out a few awesome classic pickup trucks, a whole host on display at the event. A little VW Beetle done in the style of Herbie is also at the event, while Rawlings loves a Pontiac that has a Ferrari style body on it.

An Epic Collection Of Cars On Show At Gas Monkey Garage

Rawlings steps out to the main road where the garage is actually located, and it is just full of cars trying to get into the event and to meet Rawlings as well as see more cars. And its little wonder that the que is so big with so many epic cars on show, and something that impresses Rawlings is how many Beetles and VW Campervans are on display at the garage. Rawlings isn’t able to get around to look at everyone’s cars, simply because there are so many of them on show.

Rawlings jokes he isn’t sure if his neighbors will be willing for him to have an event like this again, such is the amount of cars at the show! Later on we get to see some cars do donuts and burnouts, one of the highlights being a bright yellow Honda S2000 that the video description said absolutely made the event. We see it do some epic donuts and lay down some rubber at the garage, and make a lot of noise while it is doing it. It was certainly one hell of a machine.

Laying Down Some Rubber And Making Some Smoke

As Rawlings said at the start of the video, the vent was all about showing off some epic cars and having a lot of fun. It’s the turn of a Skyline to lay down some rubber next, although it doesn’t go quite to plan as its driver clips the back bumper on the fence, and it starts to hang off the back of the car before it drops off completely! Luckily, there is no major damage done to the car, but Rawlings loves to see something get right up close to the fence.

The Perfect Way To Spend A Weekend

An event like this looks to be the perfect way to spend a weekend, and it was all to show off that epic Fleetline build. It doesn’t feature much in the video, but we know it was a true labor of love for Rawlings and his team, and it’s remarkable to think that the garage has been going for some 20 years already. The Fleetline still resembles the car that Rawlings had way back in 2003, but it is great to see it finally come back to life, and that it now won’t be sat gathering dust within the Gas Monkey Garage.
