Reviving Muscle and Glory: The Remarkable Restoration of a 1970 Chevy Camaro

1970 was a beautiful time for the classic American muscle and pony cars that we all know and love, from the introduction of the first generation of the Challenger to the iconic second generation of the Firebird and Camaro. Undoubtedly, 1970 created the most remarkable American automotive icons ever to hit the two-lane blacktop. The Camaro, in particular, was determined to make 1970 the year that it separated itself from the Mustang and other competitors to create an entirely new beast. It’s safe to say that Chevrolet accomplished this goal quite well. This car epitomizes that furious fight for the minds and hearts of automotive enthusiasts across the nation.

Under the hood of this fantastic 1970 Camaro, SS/RS is the original Chevrolet 350 cubic-inch small-block V8 engine. Under the car are a complete Detroit Speed speed kit and a set of coils and springs, which drop the ride height significantly. The owner initially wanted to do a complete rebuild and turn the muscle car into an autocross racer. However, after driving the car around for a bit, the owner fell in love with this vicious machine. This connection between man and metal means that the power train will remain original while the suspension and brakes will always be up for upgrades and modification.

The exhaust system was custom-made to give that signature classic Chevy sound with an extra touch of rawness to complete the tone. The engine’s bit of modification has received in the form of headers and a small cam; the engine is producing somewhere in the 350 horsepower range. That is still a pretty significant figure for such a lightweight car. This thing knows how to use its power in a way that makes it quick and comfortable all in one neat package to make a perfect Grand Tourer vehicle.
