Dennis Collins’ Ambitious Restoration Project: Saving Two Pontiac Trans Ams from the Ashes

1977 Trans Am Special Edition / 1979 Trans Am in street with people

While special edition vehicles have significance among collectors and enthusiasts, some classic cars are more about memories and nostalgia.

This is the case with the other Pontiac destroyed in the fire, a 1979 Trans Am.

Its owner, Laurie, recounts how she got the car from her father, a classic car dealer, in 1984 – the Heritage Brown Pontiac is a constant reminder of that relationship since her father’s death 20 years ago.

Fortunately for Laurie, her Trans Am is in better shape than her husband’s; the lack of a T-top roof on her ‘79 helped protect the car, unlike the ‘77 Special Edition that suffered a complete collapse of its upper structure
