1962 Chevrolet Impala Surfaces from a Heated Garage with Low Mileage and Coveted Features

The Impala SS debuted in 1961 as a $53 package, and its early success convinced Chevrolet to spend more time refining the setup.

The Super Sport slowly became a main Impala sales catalyst, especially as Chevrolet added more powerful engines to increase its performance appetite.

The 1963 Impala SS could be ordered with any engine in the lineup, including the six-cylinder mill. It wasn’t the best choice for a Super Sport, and it’s why few were eventually produced, but the GM brand wanted the top Impala to be available for as many buyers as possible.

The engine lineup started with the 235 straight-six and continued with the famous 283 two-barrel V8. The 4-barrel version left the Impala lineup to make room for an all-new 327 offered with 250 and 300 horsepower. The 348 waved goodbye to the Impala, too, and the top choice in 1962 was the 409, with a maximum output of 409 horsepower.

The Impala SS that landed on eBay courtesy of seller vehiclesellingsolutions features a 327 small-block engine, and as anyone would expect after browsing the photos, it runs and drives like a new car. The vehicle has already received essential fixes, but the mileage is original. The odometer indicates 35,000 miles.

The car spent its last few years under a cover in a climate-controlled garage, but it is worth knowing that it wears a fresh coat of paint sprayed in 2021. The silver exterior looks mesmerizing, making the Impala SS a genuine head-turning machine. The interior is in tip-top shape, too, but it’s unclear if it has ever received a refresh.

The car is ready for someone’s collection if they’re not looking for an all-original setup. Unfortunately, the previous owner also installed parts that ruined the factory magic, though they still wanted to avoid modern upgrades. They installed an aftermarket vintage radio, so you’ll need to inspect the car in person to see how much of it is no longer stock.

The photos published on eBay indicate the Impala SS needs nothing to return to the road, though the low miles and the perfect-10 condition make it the kind of vehicle that should only get out on sunny Sundays. I’ve seen many restored Impalas but few come with low miles and are so close to an all-original car, but I still recommend an in-person inspection before committing to a purchase.

The bidding for this Impala SS started a few days ago, and I’m not surprised the car received so much attention. The auction received 66 bids, with the top offer already exceeding $31K. However, the owner configured a reserve, and it’s yet to be unlocked, meaning that the WWW must do better to give the car a second chance.

The Impala is parked in Bakersfield, CA. where potential buyers can see it live
